Spelling Bees

Holy Spirit Catholic Regional School is proud to participate in an annual spelling bee. Each year Holy Spirit hosts a spelling bee for 4th-8th graders through the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Each grade sends the top two spellers to compete in a final competition. The final competition is generally held in early December. The winner of the final competition then proceeds onto the County Spelling Bee. The 2008-2009 Holy Spirit winner that went on to the County Spelling Bee was 5th grader David Fonseca. As the sponsor of the spelling bee I, Mrs. Stroud, was honored to accompany David and his mother to the County Spelling Bee last year.

Information concerning the 2009-2010 spelling bee will be forthcoming in the blue folders. The final competition has been set for Wednesday, December 9, 2009 in the elementary school gym at 8:15 A.M. It is so easy to study for the spelling bee too! Simply go to on the Scripps National Spelling Bee study site, and choose one of the fifteen categories on the left hand side of the screen and choose either 'Study Words' or 'Challenge Words'. Each list of words is available in a printable version. Any student with access to a computer can now learn the official list of study words for the 2010 National Spelling Bee or just learn new words to enrich their vocabulary to become better writers!
